Fatalities: Approximately 180,000 people lost their lives in road accidents in India in 2024, marking a significant increase from previous years.

 

Daily Impact: India witnessed an average of 1,317 road crashes and 474 fatalities each day in 2024, translating to about 55 accidents and 20 deaths every hour.

 

Youth at Risk: Individuals aged 18–34 years accounted for 66% of road accident deaths, highlighting the vulnerability of the working-age population.

 

Two-Wheeler Riders: Two-wheeler riders and pedestrians constituted 70% of fatalities on state and national highways in Maharashtra in 2024. Notably, 67% of two-wheeler deaths were due to helmetless riding. Children's Safety: Nearly 10,000 school students died in road accidents in 2024, underscoring the need for enhanced safety measures around educational institutions.

 

Accidents Near Schools: The 2024 e-DAR report indicates that 4.6% of road accidents occurred in school and college zones, emphasizing the importance of road safety audits in these areas.

 

Emergency Response: Timely medical intervention remains crucial. A recent survey revealed that the success rate of ambulances reaching accident scenes on core highways has reduced to 72%, highlighting the need for improved emergency services.
